LAX is not a main hub for many main USA airlines, but due to its
importance you can still travel to most part of the country with direct
flights. In general, Virgin America, United Airlines, Southwest and American
Airlines maintain a large network in LAX. But taking a connecting flight is not
that bad if you are not transiting at the busiest airport or during snow storm.
LAX-JFK (New York), LAX-SFO (San Francisco), LAX-ORD or LAX-MDW
(both Chicago) are among the most busiest sectors and therefore you can
purchase your flight of your choice reasonably priced.
There are alternative airport such as Long Beach airport where
JetBlue has a huge hub, Burbank Airport and Oxnard-Ontario Airport but they are
far and you can’t fly to many places.
*Tips: Most airlines in the world belong to one of the 3
alliances (OneWorld, Star Alliance and SkyTeam). You can accumulate frequent
flyer points in one airline while flying with multiple airlies provided they
are in the same alliance or have some agreement. For example, you can
accumulate Singapore Airlines’ Krisflyer points while travelling on United
Airlines planes as both airlines belong to Star Alliance group. By doing that,
you can reach your target to claim a free ticket faster. Wiki these stuffs as
it will add up to a lot of points for free tickets if you travel more than
twice a year especially your trans-pacific flights.
