Consulate

Most of the students here have not registered themselves with the Malaysian Consulate in Los Angeles yet, except the Bank Negara, MARA and JPA-sponsored students. The consulate has a lot of interesting and free events and they can only inform you if you have registered with them. You can do that here. This website also has a lot of information about what the education department of Los Angeles Consulate does.

Some reasons to register with them include to be able to vote away from Malaysia (applicable for students and government staffs only) and to increase the government’s ability to assist you in the event of an emergency or disaster (remember that LA is a seismically active area and we are currently expecting a magnitude 7 earthquake which has been long overdue.)

It is clearly stated in the Malaysian passport that Malaysians who fail to register would face the risk of having their nationality revoked under Article 25(2) of the federal Constitution though it is usually not enforced.

It has come to our knowledge that sometimes the consulate don't reply to your email or form submission. Please be patience and if it is not something important such as registration, we assume that the document has been accepted. Talk to the executive committee members if you need to contact the consulate urgently but can't reach them.
