- Dictionary. There is a thing called online dictionary
- 2-Hole Punchers or A4 paper. If you bring the 2-Hole punchers,
make sure you bring enough 2-Hole files or binders because you would not find
any here. A4 paper will stick out when you submit your homework and it is
awkward.
- Linen. Beds here are longer. If you wish to bring your own
linen, check the dimensions in the pre-enrollment package you received before
buying and bringing over any. Basic linen costs $8 in Target.
- T-shirts. The first month in school will leave you with at least
2 or 3 new, free T-shirts. Eagle-eyed awareness of events/activities will land
you at least 3 more.
- A combination of cash, bank drafts or other monetary instruments
exceeding $10,000. If you bring that much cash, you will have to declare it at
the customs and the following procedure is troublesome. Electronic transfers of
cash are a viable option although there are wiring charges.
- Meat, Bah Kua, fruits or perishable food. Dogs are deployed in
airport to detect drugs and meat because they are afraid of avian flu. If you
are adventurous, vacuum it and seal/pack with at least 2 or 3 layers of plastic
bag but chances are they will find it and confiscate it as there is a thing
called X-ray. Good luck!
- Rice cooker and utensils. You cannot cook in the dorms. Even if
you could, is it worth the hassle?
- Shieldtox or so. There are no mosquitoes in Los Angeles as it is
a desert.
