Summer classes are more intense due to the shorter period (generally 6 weeks instead of the usual 10 weeks of instruction) but less competitive as a lot of
the students are doing internships or enjoying their summer vacation. It is a
good idea to do summer classes during your first year to finish some of your
major classes without competitions as the number of upper-division classes
offered is limited during summer. Furthermore, you are paying in-state tuition
fess during summer and the school fees is calculated based on units enrolled,
so it cheaper in general. Some students use the summer to take classes which
are generally tough to enroll for during the quarter due to limited space and
high demand.
