Los Angeles has some of the best public beaches in the world (we are not talking about Bali or Maldives here). Santa Monica, Venice and Malibu have clean beaches but the water is cold. It is always nice to go to beach and spend some time there relaxing. They are about 30-40 minutes away by bus. The ocean has sharks but they rarely attack people. People like to surf and sail here. A general advice is to not visit the beaches after a rain or storm since the water from inland are channeled to the sea which would result in trash of all kinds (including hypodermic needles which pose a hazard to human health) from the city ending up along the coastline.

Some of the attractions around Los Angeles include Getty Museum, Getty Villa, Hollywood Hill, Griffith Observatory, Huntington Garden, Big Bear Lake, Arrowhead Lake, Universal Studios, Disneyland, Santa Barbara, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Staples Center, etc. San Diego, home to the San Diego Sea World, Legoland, and San Diego Zoo, is a 2-3 hours drive away and a popular vacation destination during long weekends.

Central Ticket Office (CTO)
The Central Ticket Office (CTO) would be a good place to purchase tickets for theme parks around California and movies at a lower price.  Before you buy any tickets, check out CTO first. There is a surcharge of 50 cents on debit card.
