As a UCLA student, you have to know about the Big Blue Bus (BBB)
or Culver City Green Line (Green Bus) and Metro LA (buses only).
BBB and Green Bus costs 50 cents with your Bruin card (summer is
$1 regardless). Metro LA is $1.50 (no discount, but it is the cheapest bus fare
you can get in big cities nationwide). UCLA is the terminal for the BBB. You
can get a monthly pass at CTO office too if you are going to use public
transportation heavily.
Some of the bus routes you will most probably take are the BBB
1, 2, 3, 8, 12, Green Bus 6, Rapid 6, Metro 2/302, 305, and Metro 20/720, 233.
A useful guide to get around places can be found here though one
should always double-check the accuracy of this guide.
Forget about subway. The closest stop is in Koreatown (an hour
away) or the newly opened Expo Line at Venice/Robertson which is 40 minutes
away by BBB. UCLA will get its own station in 2016 if no delay happens
(it has been delayed to 2036).
