Regarding the New International Students and Scholars
Orientation (NISSO), all incoming international students must attend at least
one session unless you have a very valid reason (not travelling though). You
will need to check-in with them during the orientation. If you have very good
reasons, you can postpone your check-in till the school starts but it will be
troublesome to go through the whole process while you have classes. Failure to
check-in will also get you into trouble (yes, it is an offense and you will be
an illegal immigrant) as it is you responsibility to check-in with Dashew
Center within a certain number of days according to the law.
Make sure you go to the orientation you are registered in
because there is no refund for missing it. If you miss NISSO, your student
status will be put on hold as you have not registered with the Dashew Center
and technically you are not a student yet. Get to know the people in Dashew
Center (Jennie, Kelly and Andrew) and you will be informed of their activities. They have really good
activities or trips usually. They have trips to Disneyland, Universal Studios,
road trips around California and Las Vegas, LA Lakers game, LA Dodgers baseball
game, soccer game, Bruin Kitchens, speed dating (yes, they did it!), musical
shows and more often times at discounted prices!
