Los Angeles has four seasons.
Spring (March to May): Occasional showers (about 5 days), 10 –
20oC.
Summer (June to August): Hot and dry, 15 – 30oC. It
might hit 40oC sometimes.
Fall (September to November): Occasional showers (about 5 days).
15 – 30oC.
Winter (December to February): Occasional whole-day shower, 8 –
20oC. No snow, sorry for all you snow lovers L
United States is one of the few countries (maybe the only) that
uses Fahrenheit instead of Celsius. Therefore, when someone says that the
temperature is 100, it is not boiling hot but hot (40oC) and when it
is below 60F (15oC), it is cold to us.
Typically, the morning is cold and it gets warmer in the
afternoon. Due to the low humidity, you rarely sweat even when it is sizzling
hot (unless you sunbathe), and it rarely rains. When it does rain, the
locals might regard it as something significant. There are instances of heavy
downpour much like the rain in Malaysia but in general, rain typically comes to
mean a light shower which usually lasts the whole day. Thunders are rare but
possible.
The typical four seasons is not
to be expected here and weather patterns can get erratic at times. Summers can
be cold while winters can be hot. Consider yourself lucky though since LA is
one of the few places in America where you can dress lightly during the winter
as conditions are pretty similar to what you will find in an air-conditioned
room back in Malaysia.
