Due to limited public transportation, we are limited to certain
shopping malls. Westwood Village has some boutique and franchise shops such as
American Apparel, Victoria’s Secret, Urban Outfitters and Buffalo Exchange.
Green Bus 6 will take you to Culver City Westfield Shopping Mall
where you can find Bestbuy, Target, Macy’s, JC Penny and more. It is a good
place to shop during thanksgiving as all the departmental stores are just
within a stone’s throw distance.
If not, Santa Monica Third Street Promenades is another good
place. Santa Monica Place is a newly built shopping center with a variety of
shops ranging from Nike to LV. The Promenade is a very touristy place but all
the shops there have discounts. You can get GAP, Adidas, A&F, H&M,
Apple, Old Navy, Levi’s and etc. For heavy-duty shopping, go to the factory
outlets at San Gabriel Valley or Camarillo – but you will almost definitely
need a car. For the unacquainted, factory outlets (not THE Factory Outlet) are
regarded as the best places to find good bargains for a variety of goods
(clothes, electronics, camping gear, etc.)
Always use Google Map if you are not sure how to go to a place
by bus, but not all places can be reached by bus
though.
Sales
The largest sale nationwide is Black Friday, the fourth Friday
of November every year. People will line up or camp outside the stores fighting
for heavily discounted items. It is the best time to buy anything you want.
Cyber Monday is the following Monday of Black Friday and it is the web version
of Black Friday.
Boxing Day, Independence Day and Memorial weekend might have
some sales too but it is of smaller scale. Internet shopping is very common
here. As a student, you are eligible for a 6-months Amazon Prime trial.
